Chairman Interview
Accies chairman Ronnie MacDonald spoke to the website in July of last year about all things Accies. Quite a lot has happened since then.
Record Transfers for Accies and new signings
Accies announce five dealings on Monday night with the club record transfers for buying and selling both shattered.
18 year old midfielder James McCarthy will complete his transfer to Premiership team Wigan Athletic on Tuesday morning in a seven figure deal. The club's previous record sale was Paul Hartley to Millwall for £380,000 in July 1996 and that has been trebled. James is the current PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year, and netted six goals for us in the SPL last season. He will sign a four year contract at the JJB Stadium. Speaking exclusively to Accies website on Monday evening James commented, "I had an absolutely brilliant time at Accies. The club have been tremendous with me. I made so many good friends and I wish everyone at Accies all the very best." James will jet out to join his new Wigan teammates in Austria in time to be available for the final game at their training camp against a Bulgarian side on Friday.
Also departing Accies is 22 year old striker Joel Thomas who will complete a £125,000 move to English League One side Colchester United on Tuesday morning. Joel spent a season with us after arriving from Kaiserslautern last August. Like James, French striker Joel goes with our best wishes.
Experienced defender Marvin Andrews, 33, has signed for us tonight and took part in Monday's bounce match against Queen's Park. A Trinidad & Tobago internationalist who was at Raith Rovers last season, he was a member of the Rangers team who won the SPL four years ago. Marvin has signed to the end of the season.
Goalie Tomas Cerny has further committed himself to the club, as we have agreed a fee of £180,000 (€200,000) with Sigma Olomouc. Again this is treble our previous record purchases (£60,000 for Paul Martin from Kilmarnock in November 1988 and the same fee for John McQuade from Dumbarton in August 1993).
Defender Trent McClenahan, who returned to Australia in mid May for an operation, has now agreed terms with us for the new season and he will arrive back from Sydney on Wednesday to put pen to paper on a deal to the end of the season.
Accies had a bounce game with Queen's Park on Monday in which Billy Reid again ran his eye over a few trialists, including one familiar face, as well as giving most of the first team a run out. Accies will be in action away to Darlington on Wednesday night, with the 19s facing Livingston Utd juniors the following night. The first team squad depart for Dublin on Saturday to play Drogheda on Sunday and UCD next Tuesday. The club also hoped to entertain a Spanish side on 4th August but that wont be happening now.
