Accies defeated Raith Rovers by more than the scoreline would suggest on a stormy night at NDP. The win didn't change their league position, but it did give them some breathing space at the foot of the table while keeoing them in touch with the teams higher up. Martin Canning (left) scored his first NDP goal and it was Simon Mensing who scored the winner in the second half.

Accies finished an ultimately disappointing week with this well deserved win against Raith Rovers at a wet and windy NDP. Billy Reid made just one change from the team that should have defeated Falkirk on Saturday, with Grant Anderson replacing Andy Ryan, who dropped to the bench. Accies took charge of the game from the start but had to wait until the 20th minute for their first decent attempt on goal, but Mark Stewart's shot from 15 yards went just over the top.
Rovers made occasional forays towards the Accies goal and had a decent chance to open the scoring with a neat move after a mistake by Mark Stewart in the 25th minute, however their effort was too high. Accies were creating the better chances and Danny Redmond picked out Grant Anderson in the 34th minute with a delightful cross. Grant had the goal at his mercy but his diving header went a couple of feet wide of goal. He followed this up with a crisp shot from outside the area but the Raith keeper dived well to save and hold onto the ball.
It looked as though Accies would have to be content with being on level terms at the break, but a good corner kick move led to the opening goal right on the stroke of half time. Danny Redmond played a quick ball to the unmarked Jon Routledge, whose cross caused havoc in the area before Martin Canning lashed it home from a few yards out for his 3rd goal for the club and his first at NDP.
Accies came very close to doubling their lead 3 minutes after the interval when Stephen Hendrie was picked out by Grant Anderson. His header was good but it was well saved by David McGurn. Rovers were being generally outplayed now so it was a major surprise that they equalised on the hour, with a deflected free kick by Brian Graham that looped past the helpless David Hutton. It was the Fife team's first effort on target.
Accies didn't feel sorry for themselves for too long and it was Simon Mensing who grabbed what was to be the winner just three minutes later when he thumped the ball home after another Danny Redmond corner kick had unsettled the Rovers defence. Accies had to defend resolutely towards the end but David Hutton only had one routine save to make in the entire game. Apart from that, it was clear that Accies certainly deserved to win the game.
So it was a good win for the hoops, with standout performances from the defence plus Danny Redmond in midfield. The forwards tried their best, with Grant Anderson unfortunate not to score on a couple of occasions. Billy Reid was a satisfied Manager after the game and was clearly looking forward to taking on Morton again at the weekend.
